For Christmas 2024, Maddalena SpA has once again chosen to support the Progettoautismo FVG Onlus Foundation, strengthening a partnership that brings together solidarity, art, and innovation.
The Bottiglie d’Autore project embodies this synergy, where the creativity of the young artists from the NoWay-NoUei Atelier blends with Friuli Venezia Giulia’s winemaking tradition, creating gifts that tell the story of the region and inclusion—becoming the centerpiece of the company’s Christmas narrative.

Let’s retrace the steps of this wonderful journey, which, for the 2024 greeting season, is about to reach the homes and tables of our Stakeholders.

An initiative where art, wine, and solidarity come together for the common good, aiming to highlight social inclusion and the value of human potential. This is the essence of the Bottiglie d’Autore project.

In recent years, the Progettoautismo fvg Foundation has launched a significant network initiative with various local organizations. The young individuals attending the Home Special Home Center of Progettoautismo fvg have created paintings through the NoWay-NoUei Atelier, which have been transformed into unique labels for a selection of Specogna’s finest wines.

By purchasing the Signature Bottles, a significant percentage of the proceeds is donated to support the Progettoautismo FVG Foundation’s Life After Us initiatives: I PRIMI 500 – Progettoautismo fvg onlus.

In fact, the construction site for the creation of a co-residence and co-housing village where families will be able to live close to the children attending the center and simultaneously help each other is underway. “This project took its first steps in 2018 and seeing it realized is for us a source of great emotion and immense pride” – Elena Bulfone, President of the Progettoautismo fvg Foundation, tells us – “The NoWay-NoUei Atelier is the place where the impossible becomes possible. In this space the talents of our people, even the most serious ones, have the freedom to be born and above all the possibility to grow thanks to the support of real artists and craftsmen who, together with educators, support with their artistic expertise the birth of real masterpieces.”

After getting to know Progettoautismo fvg, and also hosting an art exhibition inside its facilities last winter, Maddalena Spa wanted to enrich the collaboration with the Foundation: labels designed by the boys at Progetto Autismo for Maddalena SpA and Christmas gifts made all together, thanks to a corporate volunteering project.

For this collaborative effort, it was important to involve the young team from the very beginning, sharing with them the distinctive aspects of the product range and the crucial role that the culture of water metering plays within the Company.

“We were fascinated by Alessandro’s  large paintings, explosions of color and emotion that convey a powerful vitality“ – tells Arianna Arizzi, Marketing and Sustainability Manager, who followed the project at every stage – “as well as Gabriele‘s creatures: monsters that come to life, transforming real objects into illustrations with a comic book flavor but deeply rooted in reality”. 

All the boys needed was a simple explanation about water, a scarce and strategic resource, and the colors to be used: blue for cold and red for hot, measured by Maddalena’s mechanical (MecTo) and electronical (ElecTo) meters. During the briefing, products were looked at and described, and important details emerged, such as the year the company was founded, 1919, and the functionality of the smart meters, which are capable of monitoring consumption and communicating reading data via radio.

Out of this experience came four works, two of which were later chosen to become valuable labels for wine bottles chosen from the Specogna Winery’s selection. The two labels are related to water and its flow and are enriched with data and numbers that tell the smart evolution of the water sector. In addition, just as they distinguish hot and cold water, they likewise distinguish Specogna’s Merlot and Pinot Grigio bottles.

Gabriele’s Monsters, on the other hand, adorn the Christmas card that was sent around the world to raise awareness of the project and represent, each in its own iconic transformation, the historic SJ single-jet, residential water meter and the innovative ElecTo MVM volumetric meter that analyzes and communicates data thanks to its integrated electronic register.

The original works, on the other hand, will be exhibited inside the production facility in Povoletto (UD) and will help enrich the executive meeting area, accompanying other paintings from the Atelier.

Corporate Volunteering

The project does not stop at art. In fact, Maddalena Spa has also joined the project “FOR NOTHING: The Human Value of Autism,” a collaboration that promotes social inclusion and offers short employment internships for adults with autism.

On some days in December, the Company will host six groups of young people from Progettoautismo, inside the production plant in Povoletto (UD), to pack Christmas parcels together with them. This activity allows participants to develop attention, organization and social interaction skills, enhancing them as active participants in the community.

To implement the project in an inclusive way, Maddalena Spa extended an invitation to its employees to seek a dozen volunteers who wished to experience corporate volunteering. Enthusiasm was not long in coming: within days, the volunteers made themselves available, and were even joined by corporate partners who wanted to participate in a personal capacity in the solidarity initiative. This is the value of a Community that believes in human potential, teamwork and the importance of “doing together.”

From the creative encounter between ProgettoAutismo fvg and Maddalena Spa, truly special scarves have also been developed. These are just a few pieces that were born from the works of art created for Maddalena Spa by Alessandro Basiero. These scarves, an expression of a union between creativity and inclusion, represent not only a work of art to wear, but also a concrete symbol of our company’s support for the unique talent enhancement projects promoted by ProgettoAutismo FVG.

This state-of-the-art instrument is designed to handle meters with sizes ranging from DN50 to DN200, enabling a quick and smooth switch between different gauges and significantly increasing our production capacity.

The new test bench uses the comparison test method, ensuring accuracy and reliability in every test. With a flow range of up to 500 mc/h, we are able to further improve the quality and efficiency of our production processes.

Maddalena is constantly researching and implementing new technologies to better serve customers and maintain high standards of excellence.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the new variant of the ElecTo SJ, a single-jet electronic meter, now also available with wM-Bus and LoRaWAN communication. This version, available for cold and hot water, is designed for both indoor (submetering) and outdoor (utility) residential applications. 

The product’s design features an additional cap for a higher degree of environmental protection, a dial cover and a new enhanced antenna to maximise radio range.

The electronic radio register of the ElecTo SJ simplifies the reading of data and makes additional information available to users and operators. The datalogging functionality of historical values offers a detailed analysis of consumption, and the advanced anomaly detection also makes it possible to promptly identify suspected leakage situations.

The main strength of this variant is the simultaneous communication of the wM-Bus and LoRaWAN protocols, which allow for maximum flexibility and scalability through long-distance mobile and fixed systems. The ElecTo SJ, therefore, is the best response to the European Energy Efficiency Directive in the divisional domestic context.

In addition, it adds to Maddalena’s range of electronic water meters for the Utility sector, which now includes speed, volumetric and static meters.

In particular, for this upcoming Christmas, Maddalena Spa has chosen to support the Non-profit “Progettoautismo FVG” Foundation by promoting its extraordinary projects through the wines of Azienda Agricola Specogna decorated with labels painted by the young people who attend the “NoWay-NoUei” Atelier, a workshop space for cultural aggregation situated in the Home Special Home – the daily centre and hq of the foundation – in Feletto Umberto (UD).

The peculiarity of this project lies in the opportunity to go beyond mere sponsorships or donations, the wine becomes a gift and the gift focuses on enhancing the talents of these young people in a virtuous and inclusive manner. In fact, each signature bottle contributes with part of the proceeds to support the Foundation’s initiatives, complementing the donation offered by the Company through participation in the “The first 500” campaign.

Progettoautismo FVG’s venues are the places where the impossible becomes possible. Enablement workshops, art, music, circus, theater, sports and job placement are some of the tools to burst the bubble of social isolation that people with autism and their families experience in their everyday lives. Progettoautismo’s mission is revolutionary but not utopian: to burst that bubble to offer anyone who needs it the tools to live a full and happy existence.

Temporary Art Exhibition

During the whole month of December, Maddalena Spa will transform into an artistic stage, welcoming an extraordinary temporary exhibition in the middle of its offices and production areas. This special event will give birth to a unique combination of creativity and solidarity.

The artworks made by the talented and passionate young artists from Progettoautismo FVG in their atelier NoWay-NoUei, will be displayed in the Povoletto establishment. Each artwork represents a fragment of genuine and authentic creativity, an ode to diversity and self-expression.

With a gesture of generosity, each artwork will be available for purchase through a free offering. All proceeds from this initiative will be donated to the Non-profit “Progettoautismo FVG” to build the “Enzo Cainero” co-housing village.

The partnership between the black and white club Cycling Team Friuli-Victorious and Maddalena SpA has been confirmed for 2024. The continuation of the relationship was formalized at the headquarters in Povoletto (Ud), with the delivery by the club of two framed picture depicting Bryan Olivo during his success at the 2023 Italian Time Trial Championship.

Sanctioning the extension of the agreement were Giovanni Maddalena and CTF Victorious General Manager Roberto Bressan, who highlighted the importance of having the support of a historic brand, a vessel of excellence in the Friulian industry, which will be featured on the 2024 jersey. The new uniform will be presented soon!

The same care Maddalena pays daily to water metering is placed in the attention required by a time trial competition, where every hundredth of a second makes a difference. Hence the parallel with Italian time trial champion Bryan Olivo, a regional talent who brought the tricolor back to Friuli Venezia Giulia this year, three years after the success of then-bianconero rider Jonathan Milan.

At the meeting between Maddalena and Bressan, not only outstanding achievements were discussed, but also actions to support cycling, intended as slow mobility and sport activity that is mindful of the environment and the well-being of employees, with initiatives included in the sustainability plan. For example, the new inter-municipal road system that, by the end of the year, through the construction of a bike path, will connect the plant with Grions del Torre and allow a safer and easier connection to Udine, all to encourage no-emission travel.

Italy’s sustainability award, the Sustainability Award, has published, in its third edition that has replicated and amplified the great success of the previous one, the ranking of the top 100 sustainable companies Italian companies (Top 100 Excellence) and the top 100 companies that, by participating in both editions, have obtained the most significant ESG rating increases (Top 100 Performances).

Maddalena S.p.A. has been ranked among the Top 100 Performers: the Company had already achieved the award in 2021, ranking among the 100 Top Companies for Sustainability in Italy in Forbes magazine. Following a virtuous path oriented towards sustainability to be read in terms of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), Maddalena S.p.A. in 2023 climbs the rankings again, moving from a terrain of unconscious sustainability (2020) to a position of innovative sustainability to be read as a source of competitive advantage (2023).

The award, conceived by Kon Group  and promoted together with  ELITE, the ecosystem launched in 2012 by Borsa Italiana that helps small and medium-sized enterprises to grow and access private and public capital markets and public capital markets and Azimut Emilia-Romagna, Marche and Umbria, is intended as a tribute to those entrepreneurial realities that have distinguished themselves for having conducted their business decisions with a view to sustainability. Each of them has been given an ESG Rating, issued by ALTIS Alta Scuola Impresa e Società dell’Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and by Reprisk.

The award ceremony took place in the prestigious setting of Piazza Affari, headquarters of the Italian Stock Exchange, and was attended by more than 250 sustainability entrepreneurs and managers.

The Award is the only one in Italy awarded solely on the basis of a mathematical score and does not involve a jury and qualitative judgments, and is part of a complex long-term project that aims to promote a greater culture of sustainability in the entrepreneurial system together with an increase in the awareness and visibility of virtuous companies that have invested considerable resources to improve the world we live in.

The third edition pays tribute to all those who have made sustainable development an integral part of their corporate DNA, setting up processes, systems and resources in such a way as to reduce their environmental and social impact.

Maddalena S.p.A. presents its fourth range brochure: SYSTEMS – Flexible solutions for mobile and fixed remote reading

The brochure, built along the lines with the previous ones on Water, Communication Modules and Thermal Energy products, takes a step further by moving away from product presentation and talks about integration. The systems range in fact offers various solutions for both mobile (walk-by/drive-by) and fixed (LAN/WAN) data centralisation for indoor and outdoor applications.

Remote reading of consumption data, either drive-by or via a fixed network, streamlines the management of installed meters. It also increases the awareness of final users with regards to their energy practices, and provides them with strong incentives to save energy.

In addition to these solutions, Maddalena’s offering is also rounded off with the new MGrid web platform for making data available to managers regardless of the reading system used. MGrid supports visualisation, monitoring and export functions and allows integration with third-party management systems. Importantly, all remote reading solutions are compatible with meters and radio modules from Maddalena and other manufacturers.

From September, the supply of 170 thousand smart water meters from the ElecTo range will start.
The Turin-based company, a leader in the field of integrated water service, continues with its project to digitise the network of the 290 municipalities belonging to the ATO.
SMAT’s PNRR project, which is of particular international importance, involves the mass replacement of traditional meters with smart meters equipped with LoRaWAN data transmission.

The ElecTo MVM + C volumetric meter was chosen as the optimal solution for small residential installations.
This meter combines the reliability and precision of volumetric measurement technology with a modern electronic clock with native multi-protocol wireless communication.

Maddalena’s list of products that have officially received the certificate of conformity to the OMS specification continues to grow.

Following the integration of 2022, which saw the ElecTo SJ – the latest generation smart meter designed for the Submetering sector – and Arrow WAN 2 – a communication module particularly suited to difficult Utility installations – 2023 sees the full integration of all the new additions to the ElecTo range.

Available with either a brass or composite case for the + C version, the ElecTo MVM Series products are designed to meet the different requirements of Utility and multi Utility. The mechanical reliability of the measuring element and the innovative radio electronic register combine measurement security with the flexibility of short- and long-distance data communication in a single product

At the same time, ElecTo SONIC represents the Maddalena ultrasonic water meter and ensures excellent performance in all installation conditions and insensitivity to the physical and chemical characteristics of the water, allowing remote data reading with mobile and fixed systems and offering maximum interoperability.

It is precisely the compliance of these meters with the OMS specification that guarantees interoperability between devices and data management systems, simplifying the management and analysis of consumption data.

Maddalena therefore offers a complete range of OMS-certified smart meters and radio suitable for all types of applications: Submetering, Utility and C&I (Commercial and Industrial). All devices allow remote data reading with mobile and fixed systems, fully meeting the requirements of the European Directive on energy efficiency.

Maddalena also guarantees a high level of interoperability with third party reading systems in order to offer flexible solutions designed to meet the needs of the Smart Cities of the future.

The partnership is part of the ‘Academy for 4.0 Operators’ project, which aims to provide employment and training opportunities to young people aged between 18 and 29, with the objective of obtaining a specific professional qualification.

Adecco Italia, leader in the human resources sector, has a long experience in personnel recruitment and human resources management. Since 2004, the company has hired over 37,000 workers with permanent contracts and has more than 2,000 apprentices, 41% of whom are blue collar workers. These figures testify to the trust placed in this partner for the selection and placement of new talent.

The collaboration project developed in several stages and, after an initial selection, included an evaluation phase to identify the most suitable candidates for Maddalena S.p.A.

On the assesment day, team-building and value-added activities took place, where the young people enthusiastically and actively engaged in group and individual dynamics. During the first week, the group of new hires – which included a good number of women – was engaged in the classroom for the usual 40 hours of professional training in preparation for the job and on all topics concerning the technical-production, quality, safety, IT security and company organisation areas. In the following weeks, the students will continue their training directly on-the-job with company tutors and supported by qualified partners.

The aim of this initiative is to offer young people a concrete opportunity to enter the world of work, combining training and experimentation in the field, and bears witness to the commitment of the two companies to promote youth employment and vocational training. Through projects such as the Academy for 4.0 operators, the two Companies promote the development of skills and participate in building the future of young people while also contributing to Goal 4 – Quality Education – and Goal 8 – Decent Work and Economic Growth – of the UN 2030 Agenda.

The training and field experience offered during the apprenticeship will allow these young people to grow professionally and contribute to the development of the Company.
