From March 25 to 27, 2025, Maddalena S.p.A. took part in the Specialization Course on Water Systems Management, hosted at the Hotel Vittoria in Brescia. The initiative, structured into four thematic sessions, offered an important opportunity for dialogue and updates on digitalization, innovation, and investment in water systems.

We actively participated in the second day, Wednesday, March 26, dedicated to the theme “Innovation and Investment in Water Systems”, with a joint presentation alongside Acque Bresciane.
Alberto Pecile, Sales Director Italy at Maddalena S.p.A., and Ettore Acerbis, Technical Director at Acque Bresciane, presented the project “Smart Water Ecosystem”, a tangible synergy between Smart Meters, the Network, and the Advanced Central System (SAC).

A targeted and technologically advanced initiative aimed at addressing the challenges of data collection and network efficiency in the municipalities of the Brescia province.
The project plans to replace 36,000 traditional meters with static smart meters featuring LoRaWAN/wM-Bus connectivity by 2026, ensuring accurate readings and efficient communication over a dedicated network.
A concrete step towards a smarter, more sustainable, and integrated water management.

To date, Maddalena S.p.A. has supplied over 15,000 Smart ElecTo SONIC meters for the project, offering integrated data communication thanks to innovative electronic clockwork with multiprotocol radio technology.

Among the key strengths of this multi-stakeholder project are: the appointment of a dedicated project manager for each area (meters, network, and SAC), the organization of a kick-off meeting to share timelines and align expectations, bi-weekly meetings to monitor development progress, the definition of KPIs and checklists for validation (including the SAC component), and continuous engagement with all stakeholders of the authority to effectively gather and integrate requirements for data usage.

On March 22, we celebrate World Water Day, a crucial moment to reflect on the importance of this resource and the need to protect it. The theme chosen by the United Nations for 2025, Glacier Conservation, highlights one of the most urgent challenges of our time: the rapid melting of ice, which disrupts the water cycle and threatens fundamental planetary balances.

Maddalena SpA, always committed to promoting a culture of water measurement, has been collaborating for years with Reson-Ice, a project that brings together science, industry, and art to raise awareness of the fragility of glaciers and the need to preserve water.

Selected by the call Radio Utopia – News from the World of the XVIII International Architecture Biennale of Venice, the sound of Reson-Ice has received prestigious recognition, making its way to the Cité de l’architecture et du patrimoine in Paris and the Chicago Architecture Center.

Over the past year,  Reson-Ice has continued to raise awareness on water sustainability and glacier conservation, evolving from a sound experience into an educational project. An initiative that underscores the urgency of taking action for sustainability, in line with Goals 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

The most recent educational event took place at the Julius Kugy Cultural Center in Tarvisio, as part of the Raccontiamoci la Montagna (Let’s Tell the Mountain) series of meetings promoted by the Tourism Promotion Consortium of Tarvisiano, Sella Nevea, and Passo Pramollo. In an evocative evening in early February, voices and experts took turns sharing insights into the fragility of the Alps, delivering a powerful message on the sustainable management of water resources.

Reson-Ice was conceived and developed by Pietro Tonchia and Paola Fattori, lawyers and musicians from Udine, who created a unique awareness-raising project. A key contribution also came from Prof. Federico Cazorzi, a distinguished hydrologist from the University of Udine and a member of the Italian Glaciological Committee.

Maddalena SpA enriched the project with the recorded sound of a volumetric water meter, symbolizing a countdown and reinforcing the message of water resource protection.

The project also featured a special contribution from Maestro Giovanni Sollima, composer of the N-Ice Cello Concerto, created for the documentary by Corrado Bungaro, which tells the poignant Story of the Ice Cello (Raiplay). The sound of the instrument, sculpted by artist Tim Linhart on the Presena Glacier, represents the last song of the ice.

A meeting of art, science, and technology, Reson-Ice demonstrates how water measurement and the fight against climate change are strategic levers for sustainability.

The Power of the Network: The Conference with Cyber Security Angels

The event was attended by numerous IT and Security Managers from local companies, who gathered to discuss technological solutions, best practices, and major challenges in the field of data protection.
Among the highlights was the speech by Luca Moroni, co-founder of the CSA network, who emphasized the strategic role of collaboration in strengthening cybersecurity.

Also highly appreciated was the presentation of the book “Don’t Open That Mail” by Alessandro Franchi — a provocative title that, with an accessible approach, explores the risks related to messaging and the human factor, often the most vulnerable link in the security chain.

On February 7, 2025, Maddalena experienced a special day with the event “Costruire futuro: The Lines of Change”, a training opportunity dedicated to all employees of the company to engage in discussions, listen, and share experiences. It wasn’t just a simple meeting, but a collaborative journey that placed the value of people and their ability to work together at the center to collectively drive change.

The event opened with a roundtable featuring the fourth generation currently in charge, represented by Andrea Contin, Giovanni Maddalena, and Filippo Fontanelli, guided and moderated by Alessandro Rinaldi and Marzia Nobile from the DMAV Collective.

“Costruire futuro” follows the path introduced by the opening event of 2024, “Obiettivi a Canestro,” which, through the sports metaphor of basketball, helped share with all employees the goals and strategies for facing the challenges of the new year together.

The message is clear: change is a constant, and to face it, the participation of everyone is necessary. Growth, resilience, and sustainability are the three dimensions that underpin the company’s strategy—an essential balance to ensure development and competitiveness while staying true to the values that guide Maddalena SpA. Only with a clear vision and a well-defined direction can we truly build a solid and sustainable future!

Voices of colleagues: stories of transformation

After lunch, the layout of the room changed, a tangible sign that the dialogue was shifting from the leadership to the everyday protagonists of change. Three colleagues, Matteo, Alberto, and Marco, took the stage to share their experiences.

Alberto, Sales Director for Italy, openly highlighted how challenging it can sometimes be to face change, but he also emphasized the great fortune he has had over his 14 years at Maddalena, working with wonderful people. His wish is that everyone, now more than ever, can feel satisfied, more at ease, and free to contribute to the company, always respecting others.

Matteo shared his professional development journey, which led him to grow within the company until his appointment as Deputy Warehouse Manager, a role he takes great pride in. But the success is not only his—Matteo’s message was clear: change is not an individual sport but a team sport, and the merits of the success of this innovation journey, strongly experienced in 2024, should be shared with all colleagues, even those who are no longer with us today.

Closing the session was Marco, Senior Buyer, who joined the company just a year ago and was actually an observer at the “Obiettivi a canestro” event. Marco shared, with his optimism and positivity, his experience of being integrated into such a dynamic environment as Maddalena, and how this has represented not only professional growth for him but, above all, a personal development journey that is, in a cross-cutting way, reflected in the change of mindset that the entire company is experiencing.

Their stories moved us and showed us how every change is a challenge that, when faced with awareness and a team spirit, can become an opportunity for growth for everyone.

Costruire futuro: Teamwork

The event continued in an upward crescendo, with increasing energy and participation. In a dynamic and engaging atmosphere, Maddalena’s 170 employees were divided into working groups, each led by an internal facilitator, to reflect on a crucial aspect: which key word best represents the challenges of 2025 and the motivation that accompanies them.

Far from being just a theoretical exercise, this activity gave a voice to every participant. The facilitators encouraged discussion, helping to channel ideas and insights into clear, shared concepts. From the conversation, powerful concepts emerged: synergy, resilience, determination, trust, willpower… words that are not just declarations of intent, but represent the foundations on which to build the company’s future.

As the groups shaped their thoughts, these words were transferred onto the large canvas at the backdrop of the event, transforming into a visual representation of our collective identity.

The visual power of our story

Alfredo Carlo is the visual artist from the DMAV Collective who accompanied every moment of the day’s activities with his performance of signature calligraphy.

“In the heart of community-building, words matter—but so does how they are seen, felt, and experienced. At Maddalena, words were turned into a live art performance. Using lettering and calligraphy, we gathered and displayed thoughts, voices, and collective energy from a community event, transforming spoken words into a shared visual identity.”

“This wasn’t just documentation—it was an act of co-creation. Participants weren’t just contributors; they became part of the artistic expression of their own collective story. The result? A visual memory that remained long after the event, reflecting the spirit of the community itself.”as Alfredo shared in his blog.

One of the most powerful elements of the day was precisely this intertwining of art and participation. Thanks to the tailored approach of the DMAV Collective, we were able to weave together three fundamental dimensions:

• The first being the sharing of goals and strategies by the Management, which allowed us to put onto canvas the FOUNDATIONAL words for Maddalena.

• The second being the testimonies of colleagues who shared their experiences with us and encouraged us to engage ourselves, bringing to life the words of the STORY.

• And finally, the dimension of listening—non-judgmental, open, and transversal—that allowed us to ground the words of the NEW, the words of all of us.

Gradually, the eight-meter canvas behind the stage filled up, taking shape under Alfredo’s skilled hand, making visible the transformation journey we are experiencing.

This artwork will remain at Maddalena and will be displayed in the spaces of the production facility, the beating heart of the company, preserving the essence of this day and imprinting in our collective memory the value of the words shared. Every term chosen is a reflection of our shared commitment, a reference point that will guide our journey in the years to come.

To crown everything, a real-time projection of a #frame video: an emotional story lasting one minute that captured the energy, passion, and vision of this experience. A precious document, for today and for the future. Let’s watch it together!

This prestigious event, organized by the Italian Trade Agency (ICE) in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Italian Embassy in Belgrade, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, represents an important opportunity to strengthen ties between Italian and Serbian businesses.

Serbia is a key market for Italian exports within the Central and Eastern European region. GDP growth projections stand at around 4%, one of the best performances in Europe, and Italy continues to rank as one of Serbia’s main trading partners, holding the third position after Germany and China.

On 17 October, Maddalena SpA had the honour of hosting the Ambassador of Mexico, Carlos García de Alba Zepeda, for an official visit. This event represented an important opportunity to strengthen the Company’s presence in Mexico, as well as to assess the new possibilities offered by this specific market, the most important for Italy in the American continent, second only to the United States.

The Ambassador was welcomed by Mr. Franco Maddalena, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Hilário Ribeiro, Area Manager LATAM, Mr. Christopher Larimore, President DAISSA Metering, Mr. Alejandro Mendoza, CTO DAISSA Metering and other members of the management team. During the visit, the Ambassador was given a close insight into the company’s activities, product range and future developments, particularly in the Mexican market. A detailed presentation was given outlining the company’s philosophy, achievements in over one hundred years of history, and plans for the future.

One of the highlights was a visit to the production plant, where Ambassador García de Alba was able to see first-hand the state-of-the-art technologies that are used in the processes to produce water and thermal energy metering instruments. The Ambassador expressed great admiration and appreciation for the work observed and emphasised the importance of developing solid business relations with Mexico by seizing the opportunities offered by the market. 

Ambassador Carlos Eugenio García de Alba Zepeda was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Autonomous Metropolitan University and a Master’s degree in Political Science, as well as a Doctorate in Sociology in Rome. He joined the Mexican Diplomatic Corps in 1987 and has held several senior positions, including Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles and Executive Director of the Institute of Mexicans Abroad. In June 2019, he was appointed Ambassador of Mexico to the Republic of Italy, as well as Non-Resident Ambassador to Albania, Malta and San Marino. Throughout his career, Ambassador García de Alba has worked hard to strengthen bilateral relations and promote international cooperation between Italy and Mexico in various fields, including technological innovation and environmental sustainability.

After the visit to the production area, in the presence of Eng. Franco Maddalena, the Ambassador met with the commercial team in Mexico represented by Hilário Ribeiro, who illustrated the activities carried out so far by DAISSA Metering representatives and aimed at penetrating the Mexican market. The Ambassador showed particular interest in the advanced technologies used in production processes and emphasised how these innovations can contribute to improving the responsible and sustainable management of water resources in Mexico as well. Several topics of common interest were also discussed during the meeting, including technological innovation applied to water metering, environmental sustainability and the opportunities currently offered by the Mexican market.

The visit ended with an exchange of symbolic gifts and the Ambassador’s invitation to attend the Italy-Mexico Economic Forum to be held on 26 November in Rome in the presence of Mexico’s Minister of Economy Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón. We are very honoured and grateful to Ambassador García de Alba for his visit and are excited about the future prospects offered by the Mexican market.
