In recent days, Maddalena Spa hosted one of the regular meetings of IT Club FVG at its production plant. The company is an active member of the Club.

The Club’s meetings are built around a simple goal: creating a space for discussion among IT professionals and managers in the region, sharing concrete experiences, and pooling skills and perspectives. It is an open dialogue among those who are called every day to make technological, organizational, and strategic decisions.

During the evening, Maddalena Spa presented its IT journey to the many participants, focusing on architectural choices, security, certifications, and compliance topics—particularly those related to information security and software development.

Among the speakers, Alessandro Franchi (CIO) and Paolo Casoto (Head of Software Area) outlined the evolution of the company’s infrastructure, the rationale behind technological decisions, and the approach adopted to address issues such as resilience, data protection, and process quality. Ample time was dedicated to questions and discussion with the attending colleagues, whose practical insights and observations further enriched the exchange.

The evening continued with a tour of the production facilities and data centers, with special attention given to automation and the integration between manufacturing and digital systems. For Maddalena Spa, this integration is truly part of the company’s identity: technology and production work together in a coherent and structured way.

The third edition of Building the Future marked an important turning point: what a year ago might have looked like a format is now a method.

From the Heart of the Company: When Questions Truly Matter

This year, the Executive Management — led by the fourth generation — made a clear choice: change the rules of the game. No traditional roundtable. No sequence of standard speeches.
The questions came directly from the people. Questions about business performance. Curiosity about markets. Broader concerns. Reflections on Lean. Discussions about the industrial model. Doubts and insights on strategic priorities.

An authentic exchange, facilitated by DOF Consulting, which has supported this journey since its beginning in 2024 and, once again, created a space for genuine listening.

Today, Maddalena is a community of nearly 200 people. And when an organization grows, alignment is not an operational detail — it is a strategic choice.

It means openly addressing the cyclical nature of our market. It means acknowledging the growth path achieved in recent years, the result of consistent industrial decisions and a long-term vision.
And it means reaffirming that contextual complexity is not a constraint, but a driver for continuous evolution — and that the answer lies in diversification, in stronger collaboration between Sales and Operations, and in accelerating digitalization.
Today, more than 50% of revenue comes from smart meters. That is not a side note. It is the new direction.

The morning was exactly this: Clarity. Transparency. Vision.

When the Community Takes the Stage

If the morning was about strategy, the afternoon was about courage — and a good dose of fun.

In 2025, around 30 process improvement projects were presented spontaneously — and they represent only a portion of the real work carried out across the company. 
These were not top-down initiatives. They were ideas born within departments, offices, and production lines — emerging from everyday problem solving. Small, concrete projects. Cross-functional projects. Ambitious projects.

Executive Management selected six projects based on three criteria: innovation, impact, and cross-functionality. 
But the final verdict was not predetermined. The vote was entrusted to the company community.

A QR code. A smartphone. And a question that seemed simple — only at first glance: “What truly improves the way we work together?”

The evaluation was not an automatic gesture. It was a statement of intent. The criteria were clear: innovation, measurable impact, and quality of presentation.

Not the project led by a colleague you work closely with. Not the one closest to your own role. But the one capable of generating value for the entire organization.

The six teams embraced the challenge. They used irony. They surprised the audience. Because yes, it is possible to talk about processes with a smile.
And it is possible to improve by working seriously — without always taking ourselves too seriously.

The energy in the room was concrete, tangible: genuine participation.

Making it even more vibrant was the collective work of DMAV Social Art Ensemble, which accompanied the day with a creative and engaging language.

The theremin performance by Walter Sguazzin added an unexpected, almost hypnotic dimension. And the shots by Bartolomeo Rossi did what good photography always does: transform a moment into memory — and a memory into a story.

The second Academy, developed in collaboration between Maddalena Spa and Adecco, has just come to an end. Launched at the end of January 2024, this experience confirms the value and effectiveness of this training model.

“We strongly believe in Academies as an effective tool to support young people in their entry into the company: a pathway that fosters team integration, collaboration and knowledge sharing, allowing participants to undertake a professional training experience together.”

The participants in the project spent two years in the company under an apprenticeship contract, following a structured on-the-job training programme combined with classroom-based transversal training sessions. The Academy started with 8 participants and concludes with 7 of them ready to continue their journey at Maddalena under a permanent contract.

At the end of the programme, participants were assessed on both technical skills and transversal (soft) skills. On 27 January, we dedicated a moment of recognition to them, congratulating them on the path they had completed and awarding certificates of merit.

This is an important milestone that also marks the beginning of a new professional phase, requiring constant and increasing commitment, especially within a continuously evolving business context.

At a time of transformation and growth for Maddalena Spa, new opportunities for development and professional growth are also opening up for these young talents. A concrete example of how investing in new generations means building long-term value.

n my life, I’ve been a primary and preschool teacher, a special education teacher, and a mental, school, and life coach — as well as a trainer and networker. I’ve worked both independently and as an employee, in Italy and abroad. These experiences have prepared me to express, in a more entrepreneurial way, what I believe to be part of my DNA.
I grew up in the natural setting of the Julian Alps and Prealps, within the vast Tarvisio Forest area — at the heart of Europe, where Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures meet.

The natural, social, cultural, and economic characteristics of this place have strengthened the teachings I received from my parents — my mother, a forest pedagogy expert, and my father, a forester and forest administrator.
I enjoyed a wonderful childhood playing in the meadows and woods with my siblings and cousins, where my character and personality were shaped.

As I grew up, I realized that experiencing Nature as both a gym and a natural school made all the difference in my education. I focused my studies on pedagogy, earning my degree and later specializing through next-generation training programs designed to help children, teens, and adults live deeply transformative experiences of self-connection — through play and forest exploration.

The forest, as a learning model, offers the ideal environment for developing the key soft skills needed to succeed in both personal and professional life.

The operational synthesis of my personal and educational journey takes shape in the naTUra project — which means living your own nature with awareness.

The naTUra Forest

The naTUra Forest is located in Ugovizza, in the municipality of Malborghetto-Valbruna (province of Udine), within the Millenary Forest of Tarvisio. It lies inside the Natura 2000 area, an ecological network of Sites of Community Importance (SCI) — the main instrument of the European Union’s policy for biodiversity conservation.

The naTUra Forest covers an area of 6 hectares and includes around 1,000 trees, mostly spruce, with smaller numbers of larches and beeches. It can be reached by car up to a parking area, followed by a 20-minute walk — first along a paved mountain road, then on a dirt path through the forest.

It is located in the mountains, away from the village, in a rural area surrounded by meadows, private chalets, and farm stays. The forest is part of the Puanina Tour, a network of trails connecting the various locations of the Ugovizza alpine area.

There is a local tourist office serving the area. Since 2023, the forest has been PEFC-certified for its sustainable management. In the future, the goal is to obtain additional certification for its recreational tourism and forest wellness services.

The naTUra Forest is truly the place where the naTUra project was born. It is the very environment that founder Giulia has known since childhood — where she learned to understand, listen to, and care for nature, guided by her parents and alongside her siblings. This forest represents both the story and the anchor of Giulia’s personal and professional life. Her grandfather Giacomo purchased the property 80 years ago, when it was just a meadow in the process of reforestation, and later passed it on to his daughter Cristina, Giulia’s mother. The naTUra Forest has since been allowed to grow naturally, and today it serves as a place of well-being and learning for many people.

The naTUra Forest Trail

Within the forest, a network of trails has been created, winding through its most enchanting areas for about 1 kilometer. The route is ideal for Forest Bathing sessions lasting from one to three hours.

Along the trail, visitors can observe the most distinctive features of the forest ecosystem — spruce, beech, and larch trees, mosses and lichens, mushrooms, anthills, a small stream, and breathtaking mountain views.

Along the trail, there are observation points dedicated to specific natural elements, as well as areas for breathing exercises, playful movement activities, and tree-connection experiences. At the entrance to the trail, a welcome sign provides information and guidelines for respectful behavior within the forest.

There are signs identifying the observation areas for each natural element, along with guidance panels to support the experience. At the amphitheater, a 30-square-meter stage hosts activities, and an information board shares the history of the forest and the family traditions connected to the place — designed to promote awareness and education. The trail can be safely walked, but it does require good mobility.

The community

The care and maintenance of the naTUra Forest are supported by members of the community, who contribute through voluntary donations and hands-on participation in maintenance activities.

As if they had adopted a small piece of the forest, these individuals stand at the forefront of virtuous actions that benefit the planet, the community, and themselves. The community also promotes an ecology of awareness, one that begins with building a sustainable culture. In doing so, it supports environmental education for children — each year, the community donates free nature experiences to schools and their teachers.

The community is made up of people from all over Italy, united by shared values of nature, well-being, and respect for the environment and for others. Every year, these individuals gather in the naTUra Forest to spend two days together, dedicated to regeneration and personal growth.

The Water Trail is currently under development and is expected to be completed by spring 2026.

We hope that the work will be well underway in time to celebrate a special moment: the World Water Day, which Maddalena and its team will experience in the naTUra Forest on March 22, 2026 — a shared journey of connection, respect, and awareness toward the element that has always inspired us.

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our commercial and service activities across the territory, we have decided to integrate certain operational functions within Maddalena S.p.A.’s headquarters in Italy, where our production, R&D, and metrological verification departments are located. We also inform you that the verification laboratory of our Remscheid branch will cease its operations starting from November.

This decision enables the Group to further leverage its industrial expertise, maintain the highest quality standards, and support increasingly advanced development focused on smart metering solutions, remote reading, and sophisticated data management systems.

Consequently, the production, verification laboratory, and warehouse activities previously carried out at the Remscheid site will be progressively transferred to our facilities in Italy.

However, the German subsidiary will continue to operate with renewed strength as a commercial and local support hub, with the aim to:

• strengthen the Group’s presence in Germany and Austria,
• reinforce technical and commercial assistance in the territory,
• provide customers with more direct, timely, and specialized support,
• promote cutting-edge technological solutions for the intelligent management of water networks.

This year again, Maddalena S.p.A. is proudly taking part in the 24×1 Hour Relay of the City of Udine, the historic charity race held in support of the Telethon Foundation, which is committed to advancing research for the cure of rare genetic diseases.

The event will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2025, when Maddalena will take to the track with two teams:
🏃‍♂️ the Maddalena Runners, who ranked 55th worldwide in 2024, and
🚶‍♀️ the Maddalena Walkers, a group of colleagues who trained throughout the year through the company’s internal running and walking programs.

NB-IoT: the key to smarter and more sustainable water management

Representing Maddalena was Valerio Carta, Head of IoT Business Development, who presented the company’s latest innovations in smart water metering, focusing on ElecTo SONIC — the compact ultrasonic meter equipped with an electronic register and multiprotocol connectivity (wM-Bus, LoRaWAN, and NB-IoT).

Thanks to its integrated NB-IoT communication, the device enables:
